Here are some pictures from last week's world finals at Bonneville. These
were motivated by inline motors. Note the Crosley with speed parts on the
motor. The old pick-up with the 302 Jimmy is a favorite
of mine. There were a couple of other jimmy powered vehicles as well. The rat
rod featured an 8 cylinder Packard flathead. The 2 young fellows claimed they
built in 10 days and were having a ball driving it all over
the place. Also new to the salt were a couple of vehicles belonging to General
Motors. The Saturn Ion featured a turbocharged 1.9 liter Ecotec motor (4
cylinder inline) which set a record (G/BFALT) at 212.648 miles per
hour average with G.M. High Performance Vehicle Operations engineer Jim Minneker
driving. Also from G.M. making it's debut on the salt but not competing is a
stream liner with a similar motor powering it's rear wheels.
