Don
Nicholls' 54 Chev BelAir (eh!)
Don is the
Chapter head for the Ontario Inliners chapter and sends this report on his
latest toy:
Well, this ol Canadian finally got himself a neat custom '54
Chev and Inline power to boot. See what happens when you get bored on a Sat.
night and decide to surf the net for cars. I located this car just outside of
Wichita Kansas (about a 2500 mile round trip) and lucked out as my buddy was
taking a car to Tulsa and it was only about 150 miles away from the '54. I
emailed the owner and he sent me some pics and we talked back and forth on the
phone before I made the deal. Sent off a deposit and made arrangements for the
trip. When we got to his house, I was a little disappointed as the drivers
electric door lock didn't work and the door glass was down. Car was absolutely
filthy. Had to take it for a drive after over a 1000 miles of traveling. Motor
had a miss in it (turned out to need the valves reset) steering box had
about a turn and a half of play and the shifter was a mystery shifter (mystery
as to what gear you were in) but I could see the potential in the car. It has
a 250 C.I. bored out with a mild cam; Offy intake and valve cover; tube
headers; Muncie 4 spd; '55 Chev rearend with 2" lowering blocks;
cut frt springs; extra grille teeth; skirts; spotlight; frenched headlights
and tail light; white tuck and roll interior with Fiesta hubcaps. I have
enclosed a couple of pics of the car and will update later on as I progress
along with it. Had a 1954 Bel Air 15 yeas ago but it was not as nice as
this one. I will have to park in the garage beside my '40 Chev and the 1965
Chev pick-up. Sounds real good with side pipes hooked up. Has a real
bark to it.
