Steve's Sturdy '57 F-100

I bought this truck a few years ago mainly because I have always liked the lines of the 57 to 60 Styleside pickups. It had been “restored” about 10 years prior but had seen several years of duty as a work truck for a small contractor, and was showing it. The original 272 V8 purred like a kitten but it was shaped all wrong for my Inliner taste so I swapped in a inline 300 Ford six, complete with an AOD automatic transmission. An Offenhauser Dual-Port intake with a 390 CFM Holley 4bbl carb and EFI dual exhaust with turbos rounded out the mechanicals. This combination runs pretty well, due in part to the 3.70 rear end gears, I just wish it were a little easier on gas. I’ve been working on the mechanical and rust abatement, and probably won’t be doing any cosmetic repairs for a while yet. It’s only been back on the road for a short time, and right now I’m just enjoying driving it and listening to the sweet music of those dual pipes.
