We rescued
this 1952 GMC Long Stepside from a working Hereford Farm in
Western MA in 1995.
It was fairly beat up and
I had to tow it home to Cape Cod.
During the next 18 months, the Jimmy occupied portions of
three bays in our repair shop undergoing a full frame-off
restoration. All of the guys in our shop including Ricky,
Eric, and Bill helped with the mechanicals and bodywork.
It has the original 228 engine with new valves, rebuilt Zenith
carburetor, Borg-Warner T-5 five speed overdrive and an open
driveline eliminating the torque tube axle (and noise)! The
3:90 rear axle is out of a '59 Apache 3100. We flipped it
end-over-end, and mounted the yoke on the now-front of the
axle and so forth, since the GMC springs, which are new OEM
are perched from below.
The cab has all new glass and weatherstripping, and is painted
in a light tan metallic, with new maroon door panels to
compliment the maroon knobs and handles. The '52 GMC also
retains the drop-down door handles, and the 80 mph
speedometer, where Chevy made the change.
The wiring harness was shot therefore upon reassembly a 12
volt conversion with an alternator was the only way to go. The
white oak bed and strips are solid as purchased, only a little
cleanup and paintwork required here.

The
truck is a daily (no rain!) driver and we haul everything with
it.
The
optional recirculating heater makes a cold winter morning
comfortable.
