Buddy of mine had a 292 rebuilt and found this in his gasket set. He asked me what it's for and I'm not sure as I don't remember seeing one myself. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Look's like a repair sleeve for the harmonic balancer.

That is just what it is. It covers the grooves left behind from many years of wear from the timing cover seal.

What brand of gaskets includes the repair sleeve?
They're $6-$8 if bought separately.
