I have a 250 CI, with a split in the oil dipstick tube. This appears to be a pressed fit item that should pull out. Does it need to be twisted or turned during the extraction ?

Thanks
Rick C.

It should just pull straight out. There are no threads on the bottom end where it plugs into the block. A little penetrating oil might help loosen it up a bit if you let it soak in for a day or so before you pull the tube out.

I just pulled a broken one out of my 292. Find a bolt that fits snug inside of the tube (5/16" if I remember correctly), set it inside the tube, length doesn't really matter, clamp the tube with the bolt inside of it to prevent it from collapsing with your vise grips and just give it a couple of rotational twists and it should pull right out. If the split is at the top, I would use a longer bolt (even threaded rod will work as you are not going to damage it) and then clamp on below the split.
Good Luck

gm dad, this is a great idea. i wish i had known this before i pulled several out. sometimes they have been easy, sometimes a bear. i will remember this for next time.

I can't remember if I had heard about it or seen it done that way but it has always stuck in my mind and I have pulled a few out that way. Even works on them V things as well.

Thanks to all for the response. The bolt suggestion worked great, the old is out and the new is in place.
