Hey, I just bought a chrome valve cover for my fresh 292 and its got three holes which I know the breather and the pcv valve go and I got the grommet set for the breather and pcv. So, I think its some kind of vent but won't oil come out???

By breather do you mean the oil filler hole ??..Is it in front with the PCV in the rear ??...So where on the cover is this third hole ??.......Al...

Is the third hole in the front, on driver's side, on the side of the valve cover? Is so, I have a valve cover at home just like it, but I don't know what that hole is for either. Mine came with a plug in it, but I don't think I was supposed to run it like. It leaked like hell and I had to turn around within 100 yards to put the old on back on. I hope this helps. John.

The old style covers used only two holes - one for the PCV and the other for a combination oil filler / breather cap. The newer style uses a filler cap that does not breath, so there are two other holes - one in the back for the PCV, and the other in the front for a breather tube that is connected to a small filter element in the air filter housing.

The front hole can be on the top or on the side depending on the original application. Cars generally were on the side and trucks on the top. It should have a baffle on the inside of the hole to keep oil from splattering on the tube mouth.

If you don't want to use it, then you can devise a plug for it. If that's the way you hook it up, then you have to use a breather type oil filler cap. If you use the hole for a breather system, you should make sure to use a hose that can stand up to oil vapor. Don't use heater hose, as it will degrade, swell up, and fall off the tube connections.

I have a couple 292's (years unknown) that have a rather large breather hole on the side on the drivers side front that was connected to the air filter..Heavy duty service maybe...The more I think about it the breather hose to the air filter had a baffle built inline..

Its a third hole right next to the pcv valve I think on the side??

the PCV valve goes in a grommet in the back hole, the oil filler cap hole is obvious, and the third hole is for a breather tube. The breather can be anywhere (top or either side), as long as it is at the opposite end of the valve cover from the PCV.
