Just trying to work out all the small problems on my 250 chevy before I put it back on the road.
While adjusting the valves and looking for leaks I spotted a slight leak from the rear of the fuel pump. There is a pin in it that slides front and back (not sure what it is for) it leaks oil out the rear of the pin.
Any ideas on what and how to fix it?
Thanks
Bill

Clean it real good, like w/Brakecleen & put JB weld on it,
,Note: not JB quick

The only way I could get my pump on the 261 to stop leaking was to make a couple of angle brackets. One leg used the pump mounting bolt, the other "captured" the pin so it couldn't move back and forth. used some silicone between the bracket and pump around the pin. Seems to be working so far.

Hank,
Thanks, I will try your cure.
I have a few questions if you don't mind.
Clean the exterior with the pump, on the motor, I assume?
Should I push the pin / plunger (what does that thing do anyway?) so it is centered?
Then apply a coat of JB Weld, to both sides/holes - front and back of the pump.

If it is not too much of a hassle, remove the pump.
Press the pin where it looks like where it should be.

When appliying JB Weld,,rough up the surfaces where you are going to apply it.

Fuel pumps are pretty cheap I think, arn't they??,,,might think about changing it out & install a new one if affordable. Just a thought.

Normaly when a fuel pump starts to leak oil it's not far off needing replaced. they leak one of two way oil out of the block.
OR fuel into the oil pan.So don't cover/patch it up REPLACE IT.
The pin holds the fuel pump arm that rides the cam lobe.

Thanks, NovaMan & Hank. I think I'll just replace the pump. Should only be about 30$.

My pump leaked from new. The pins just aren't always pressed in well enough.

Good point.
But if the pump is old might as well change it.
