I am trying to install my clutch fork onto the pivot ball in the bell housing with no success. Parts are on the bench, not installed in the vehicle. Cant get the spring prongs to slide onto the ball. Chevy bell housing aluminum # 460486
stock clutch fork. 1979 C10, 250 CID. Any help, much appreciated. Thank you.
Regards,
El Viejo

Spring should pop int the bell housing first. Make sure it's right side up. them fork should pop right on I think. Maybe your casting groove for the spring is clogged up. I'm no expert just a thought.I just tried it on a stock on.

Mick 53, Thanks for the reply.
However the retainer in this clutch for is not the spring or "hairpin" clip in a recess. But, rather flat spring stock stamped like a two-prong fork, open on the end, Oreilly part #CF 100 or Dorman 14550. The pivot ball is adjustable so it can be removed from the bell-housing, placed into the spring clip groove, then replaced in the bell housing. But I understand that the pivot ball adjustment is critical, so I am reluctant to remove it.

Sorry about that. I'm going with hydraulic throwout bearing.
