Hi,

The engine is soooo close to being done I can taste it. During the process of priming the engine and turning over the crankshaft, the mechanic heard/felt a slight noise. Not a tink, not quite a clunk, but certainly the sound of something hitting. After lots of turn, narrowed it to the crank (hit every time around at exactly the same place).

We put a 230 and 250 crank side by side and measured the counter weights. The 250 counter weights are larger and it might be imagination, but it seemed there was an extra set. Most probably tapping on the oil pan. He had turned the crank while on the stand after installing the new oil pump and oil pickup and didn't notice anything then.

Monday, he'll pull the oil pan, see just what the noise is and hopefully with a little persuasion on the oil pan, it'll be ready to bring home then.

Thanks!
Mark
Glad to see it is going together for you. Better to find problems like that now. Much easier to fix.
Thanks, Tom. Turns out it was hitting the pickup after all. Engine is home, just waiting for more TLC.
Looking pretty!

Sounds like exactly the same thing I ran into. Glad you figured it out before installing it because that was a REAL PITA to fix!
