My 302 has lost 2 water pumps in the last 2 months. I run a 2 belt Al. pulley of std. diameter to drive ac and alternator. Worked fine for 4 years and then quit. Replaced pump and new pump quit after 2 months. Both started leaking heavily when engine was turned off.

Need new pump or rebuild kit. Where do I get high quality GMC pump or kit? Any ideas on why this is happening?

Thanks, Frank(radar)

I've been away from the parts counter for several years now but as I was leaving there was a big difference between "rebuilt" & "remanufactured" Re -man was what it implies but rebuilt means only cleaned up with faulty parts replaced. No matter which parts store you go to almost all "re.....parts" are done by A1 Cardone. Some of it is OK.

I did a quick search for California and came up with a lot of choices. Egge in Santa Fe Springs is a good bet. Search

Belt tension is a hunch. Too much tension is hard on both bearings and seals. The shop manual calls for a specific amount of measurable deflection in the belt or it is to tight.
