Does anyone know what oil pans may be compatible with the chevy 153? Other than the same engine in the marine forms? My oil pan has taken a beating over the years and has been repaired at least three times. I'd love to find another rear sump pan to replace it.
I haven't done it but I think we discussed here adapting a 151 pan. I think they fit except for the rear seal area which could be cut & patched from your pan or a six pan. I have a rear sump pan for my project but I don't even know what they came on. Mail Jeeps? I imagine a six pan could be shortened. I know the rear sumps are not easy to find.
That gen of inline 4s is still being used for a lot of stuff. As you mentioned, marine is one application, but generators and pumps too.
If you do a search for GM 2.5L and/or 3.0L
(vs for cubic in) parts, you may get hits on engines that had sumps front, middle, and rear.
A couple of years back, I was looking at 153s and found that these are kind of ubiquitous for industrial applications.
I searched hard for the rear sump pan I have now. The shipping was more than the cost of the pan when i finally found one. If you're not dead set on a rear sump pan, I have a middle/front sump pan and pickup that you're welcome to. Just pay the shipping!!
Look at Marine applications. I believe many 153 and 181 marine pans are the same as Chevy II.
This 153 is in a '47 CJ2a. I need the rear sump to clear the front driveline. A mid-sump might make it, but I'd have to have one in hand to tell for sure. There are some marine mid-sumps around. If I can't locate a rear sump I guess I'll have to risk the $$ on the mid sump to try
Like I said, you're welcome to this one!! Message me your email or phone number if you can receive photos by text and I'll send you pics of both to compare!!
What about one like this? You will need to add a baffle.

Hi,
Just curious, is there a cutoff date for which oil pan you need for early engines? (153)
There were 181 engines with the early style heads?
Thanks
My understanding is if the engine uses a 2 piece rear main seal the pans interchange. The ones that use a 1 piece seal are different in the rear but could be adapted with a section from an older pan 4 or 6 cylinder.
