I'm looking at a '52 Chevy with a stock stuck motor. I don't know anything about the early Chevy 6's What size is it? Is similar to the 235 Chevy 6's(which I do know about), or the earlier ones? Spash oiled, or pressure lubed? Replacable standard bearings, or poured babbit? How about parts avalibility? Is a 235 a direct swap? Like I said I don't know much about early Chevy stuff. Thanks for the info.

The 52, unless it's a heavy truck, should be a splash lubricated 216 C.I.D. engine with replacable bearing shells. A 54 235 is plug and play, later 235s require a little more work to swap, well documented in archives.

If the oil guage reads 0-15-30 it's a 'splash'/low pressure engine & probably a 216".

BE is correct in stating that the change to 235/261 is not hard & well documented as well.

Thanks for the info guys. Motors locked up. Don't know why because I haven't bought the car yet. Probably rings are rusted to the cylinders(been sitting since '66). I'm thinking a late 235 swap will probably be the best option.

I would spend a little time & find a 261" as they are the same outside and well worth the time looking.

Real easy to make 200 Hp. too.
