Find one from a Mercruiser 165 HP inline 6 engine. It's just a 250 straight six. The cover is made of cast aluminum (just like the Clifford and Offy) and can be gotten off Ebay pretty cheap. I've seen them for 15-20 bucks (which is a heck of a lot cheaper than the 100 & up you'll pay for an Offenhauser). They are taller than the stock cover and will probably work for your application.

If your timing is right you can grab one of these cheap. Beware though - "mr.hotrod6" is snagging 'em, cleaning 'em, and getting $70 & up for them. ;\)

I tried a Mercruiser cover and it was not any taller than a stocker. A Clifford or a 235 cover and adapter are definitely taller.

I THINK I'M A LITTLE MISUNDERSTOOD----------MY ISSUE (QUESTION) IS NOT ABOUT THE VALVE COVER BUT ABOUT THE SPRINGS. WHY WILL I HAVE CLEARANCE PROBLEMS IF I DON'T USE THE "EARLIER" SPRINGS AND JUST WHAT ARE "EARLIER SPRINGS". IS IT A INSTALLED HEIGHT PROBLEM OR A SPRING DIAMETER PROBLEM?
THANKS FOR THE HELP SO FAR

Don, what is this all about? a Stock Chevy Inline 6 has a stock installed spring height that should allow you to use ANY type valve cover that has ever been made for these engines/heads...As you told me on phone ,you have a stock set up....you said you had a stock valve cover now, seems confusion you are getting is from the info that some must be confused about....

The 165 mercruiser cover I just got on ebay for 10bucks is taller than my stock 235, 250 and 292 covers. if you look for alum covers in ebay motor and not boats the covers will cost you 5x more.

now comes a question: no I'll change threads and ask.
will a Mercruiser cover work over a roller rocker set-up on my 292ci??
