Are the 292 Chevy engines used in the John Deere
combines any different than the engines used in
trucks? Just curious.

John Deere ran a 250 in some of their smaller combines. I don't know about the 292. Gleaner and Massey Ferguson ran a lot of 292's. They are no different from the one used in trucks. Combines are a good source of engines. They are run at a constant rpm and if they have been serviced at all, most are in decent shape. I have helped do three combine engines and only one of the three had to have the crank turned and that was only enough to clean it up. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. The 4400 series Deere combines use 292 engines. I found one in a combine that had caught fire but not near the
engine compartment. It was overhauled 2 years
ago. Think I'll make an offer.

Thanks again
