Holley is offering factory refurbished carbs on E-bay. They have 390 cfm part # 8007 carb listed. Has anyone used these factory rebuilds or would it be better to buy new. Always looking to save a buck! Give me your thoughts , Thanks Todd.

I'd think that if anybody could rebuild a carb the right way, it would be the factory that designed and built it in the first place. I'll have to look at eBay, but I'd think those 390's would be fine. And thanks for letting us know about them, I may buy one.

The 390 is fine for most stock or with a mild build-up.

tlmonie, I just looked at the ebay post for the 390 carb, and there is good news and bad news. The good news is that it's a really good price. The bad news is that unless you need a racing carb set up for NASCAR, it probably isn't a good carb to buy, at least not for a mildly tuned street engine. If you're setting up an inline six for racing or high performance, it's a great buy, but if you have a daily driver type of car, I don't think it would be a very good choice.

The Holley #8007, 390 cfm 4 barrel is a member of the 4160 family, and was designed for street applications. [Although the fine print says it's only legal for off-road use in the state of california...] I used one on my 292 in a '68 C/10 for about 24 years. Stock build, only .030 over. After another rebuild in '02, we couldn't get the carb to seal. Rather than try to plane the base or graft on a new base plate, I decided to get an Edelbrock 1404 500 cfm and get a carb I could tune myself without adult supervision.
On the whole the 390 cfm p/n 8007 was a good carb for a stock or mildly built L6 with headers and aftermarket intake. It was even more fun when I put the 50cc accelerator pump on it.
Holley also makes a 4150,[p/n ..?] 390 cfm 4 barrel for the circle track crowd, perhaps this is the source of the confusion.
