I scored a few 216/235 parts and can identify everything but one crank. castind number is
3701488 Does anyone have an idea what year or engine it might be from?

Greetings . . .

I think that casting number was used only in '53 and '54 for 3-speed manual equipped cars. That was a transition time - the '53 stick engine was identical to that found in the '52 power glide cars but with solid lifters.

That number doesn't show up in my 1929-1951 Master Parts Catalog,so stock49 has got it right I think.
it makes sense because there was a 54 block in the pile too. I'll bet thats what its for.
thank you for the help

My '64 Chev parts book lists this number, 54-62 pass. 6 cyl. part no. 3701486 with ident. no. as 3701488. note 3, "when used with automatic, remove the pilot brg".
Lots of parts have a 'casting' number that doesn't come close to the actual part no.

"we don't let a lot of guys into The Pharrohs".
I guess I'll mic it and see if its worth keeping.
thanks
