A while back, I saw a discussion about using a mixture of the older 4-cylinder Chevy II engine parts ('62-'70) and the newer 151 (2.5 Liter, used from the '70s-up) parts to come up with a more torquey engine with a bigger bore. I haven't been able to find that discussion and wonder if any members have knowledge of this type of conversion? I would appreciate any info anyone cares to share with me. There use to be a stroker kit for the 153 engine. If i remember right it bumped the cubes up to 181 C.I.The kit may have been sold by Mercury Marine dealers for boat use. They also had a alum.valve and side cover.Ansen made a alum.head for them.
I have been in the wrecking yard trade for almost 35 years and have never even seen one, except in pictures.

Thanks for the reply, Evil.

I think there is an even cheaper way to come up with more cubes; like mixing 153 and 151 parts. The 151 has a 4" bore with a 3" stroke. The 153 has a 3.875 bore and a 3.25 stroke, so, if the crank from a 153 will fit a 151, I should be able to come up with more torque and cubes by going that way. However, I don't know if the cranks will interchange, even though the rod and main journals are the same for both engines. I don't know what rods and pistons I could use, either. Maybe someone will know and fill in the info. Dennis

If i remember correctly,153 has forged connecting rods and the U.S.151 has cast rods.I have read export 151 enginges have forged rods.As far as cranks interchanging,i don't know. Also there was the 151 engine that did not have a crossflow head like the later ones.We use to put those in vegas, when the Vega motors died.
