Hey guys, I've been lurking around and haven't posted much, due to having a bent 8 in my truck, a '69 GMC, with a 3 on the tree, and 3.07s out back.
However, I'm in the process of deciding if I want to change that. And this is where my dilemma starts.
If I were to keep the 307, a rebuild is in order, so I would anticipate rings and bearings, gaskets, just a quick freshening up on it. I already have headers, and with the stock intake i'm pulling around 15 mpg as a daily driver.
However, I've always been a sucker for a six, and should I go the 292 route, it would get a general freshening, rings, gaskets, bearings, probably a quick valve job and seals. It would also become the proud wearer of a 3x1 Offy and Headers, since I've been sitting on them for some time now, waiting for a 6 build. A small cam may also be in order, pending funds at the time.
My issue comes with trying to figure out which would be the most effective. I drive my truck everyday, and it gets used as a truck on the weekend. I've heard mixed reveiws from other boards, and I wanted to get an inliners perspective on it.
That being said, I'm also trying to keep this fairly cheap, because I'm in college..and..well. Thats really all I need to say on that note. haha.
So, if anyone has any input, I would greatly appreciate it, especially pertaining to past experiences, and what you think about a mpg vs. hp vs. torque comparison between the two engines.
