Will the 292 accept a SBC harmonic balancer? Also, are the 292s internally or externally balanced?

I'm thinking of ditching the stock balancer it's rusty and nasty. SBC with a set of short water pump pulleys with some shims seems like it might work.

Worth trying or buy stock replacement?

Yes they will mount. and you want to use a large Dia. Not a little 6in. The pulley mount can be moved forward on the water pumps shaft. And you may not???? need any shims.

I got a replacement 292 balancer from rock auto for around $70...

Does the same hold true for the 194 engines? Is the crank snout on those the same diameter as the 250 and 292?

OK, here's another question. I've been looking at various types and brands of dampers for SBC's, and most of them don't have grooves in the damper to line up with the belts for the 194-292 engines, so what's the answer to that? Spacers? Different pulleys? Black magic?

I also checked the Fluidampr website, since I've been thinking about using one of those, and they do make one for late Chevy sixes. Has anyone out there ever used one of them, and if you have, how well did it work?

RevOD had a standard SBC machined for grooves & it worked.
Vector damper makes them w/grooves in them,just there is a waiting period.
They are not for really high performance when they have grooves in them,but are better than stock.

Or get different pullys @ move everything forward like I did.
