Okay guys, some of you remember me from previous posts. I own a 50 Chevy with a 70 Camaro inline six 250. So far everything is good with the car. I accomplished plenty of things over the summer thanks to most of the questions answered by you guys.
I put new wiring and got the motor running. My problem now is that the motor runs rough. I been told is running to rich and I already played with the carb and nothing seems to change. It does smoke a bit and it usually takes a couple of times to start it and keep it running. Any suggestions?
Try another carb if you have one.
Vacuum leak?
Bad gas?
Could be a lot of things.

What color is the smoke? If it is black then yes it is running too rich. If so the plugs may be fouled too so check those out.

I believe the smoke is grey. It does sounds like it's running too rich cause I can smell gas really strong. The only way it stays running is by pressing on the gas. As soon as I let go then it dies again. I sprayed carb cleaner on the base of the carb to look for a vacuum leak but nothing.

Black smoke = rich gas/air mixture, gray or white smoke = burning oil, so it sounds like you might have worn rings or valve guides or valve guide seals that oil is getting past. Hopefully, you don't have a cracked piston. Try running a compression check and see if all the cylinders are close to each other in compression. You might also want to check the float level in your carb and make sure it's at the correct level and while you have the carb apart, check the jets or metering rod(s)and make sure everything is ok there.

I will do that, thank you.
