Posted By: trump where can I find a dipstick and tube for 292? - 09/17/08 02:14 PM
The long block I bought was missing the dipstick and tube. The hole looks to small to be able to use a SBC tube w/ trimmed down stick.

Is there a source for these? Anybody have any advice?

Thanks for all the help lately. I'm overwhelmed at the willingness to help on this board. Unlike many of the other websites in that respect. Thanks.
i have tried getting them from the general in the past. no help there. i always grab them from junkyard engines now. tom
I discovered that the aftermarket chrome dipsticks for FORD SMALLBLOCK V8 sold by your local Advance or AutoZone or O'Reilly had the right diameter tube to fit my 250. Had to cut the stick & recalibrate it, though.

I was thinking that they might work. Glad that somebody could verify before I went out and spent the money only to find out it wouldn't. Thanks, you saved me a lot of time.
I got a dipstick tube from Oreillys a few months ago. I think it was like $10 or $15. Some engines have a little O-ring at the base of the tube. If you dont have the old dipstick to measure it, you can change the oil and use that as your guide.
