Are there two types of the Chevy Inline Integrated Head?
I got a valve cover gasket for my 1981 Chevy Truck and the gasket had these funny loops on one side. I have the Integrated Head but the Valve Cover mating side dont have the funny loops.

I don't think so, but they did still produce the non-integrated head at the same time that they produced the integrated head. My best guess is that you have a valve cover gasket for a non-integrated head.

mmm I didnt see any holes for a different valve cover to bolt on. We will have to wait and see if there are any more answers.
I think sometimes the factories did things without permission or knowledge from GM.

i think there were two diffent heads. 1 for ibbl carb and single exhaust, the other had 2 bbl carb and dual exhaust. tom

In the mid to late 80's, we did all the upkeep for a local phone company's fleet of vans. Their engines all used the integral head. Never really noticed if there was more than one style though. They were, unfortunately, always cracked and broken and had to be replaced with the vans only having 50k-60k miles on them! Even used ones out of a junkyard were also bad and unuseable.Mostly cracked in the exhaust seat area bad enough to actually leak water into the cylinders, and on the outside in the area resembling the exhaust manifold. I would check yours out thouroughly before using....

I did not think there were two, I thought the integrated heads all had the 2bbl, but I can't say for sure. I think the integrated head engines are fine if yo want to stay stock and you NEVER overheat them. I would say if the gasket fits, bolt it in!

There were two different ones. I think you can just cut the extra loops off and it will work, Maybe. The integral heads that I've seen in Novas had one barrels and single outlet exhaust. Joe

Yes it looks like I can safely cut off the extra loops and it will still seal fine.

You know how the Integrated Head looks like a Martian with headgear? I cut all that off.
There are holes in the intake from the smog piping and I put brass plugs in them. The Valve Cover I modified with JB Weld. Instead of Six Smog Holes I just have one for the PCV to the Stock Air Cleaner.
