I'm trying to bolt up my 250 chevy line 6 engines to larger sterndrives. In order to do this, I either have to take the stock flywheel to machine shop and have new coupler mounting bolts drilled and tapped or use a different flywheel.

I want to keep the stock starter. Can I use the flywheel from small block chevy and keep my existing starter?

The 250 type six and the pre '86 V8's use the same flywheels and starters.
Flywheels come in two sizes, 153 and 168 tooth, and the starter is dependent on which flywheel you use. If the starter bolts are straight across from each other, its for a 153, if they are staggered, its for a 168.

The bolts are straight across.

Thanks for the helpful information.
