i have a i think 71 250.i need to get a harmonic balancer for it.will one from a 78 work? or do i need to get the correct year?thanks

Check the postion of the timing pointer on the timing cover, if it is in the same postion it will work. You can use it anyway if you want but will need to remark the dampner the same as your old one.

Hope I'm not stealing your thread, but I've got a similiar question that maybe a few of you could answer. I've got a 1963 230. Is there any reason I can't use a balancer from a 250 with dual grooves for vbelts? I see from the above post that there might be a problem with timing marks not being in the right spot, but in terms of it bolting on and having it do what it's supposed to do... any issues?

In addition to the timing marks check the number of grooves and the spacing on the pulleys.
They're not all the same. Makes for headaches trying to get the belts lined up!
But they all fit the crank.
