I have just finished setting the 1959 Chevy 261 motor in my 1939 ½ Chevy. Do I use the harmonic balance off of the 216 or the one that came with the 261? I tried the balance that came with the 261 and it appears that the pulley groove do not line up. I know the 261 harmonic is a stock part. Thanks for your help in advance.

The pulley grove doesn't line up with what?I just put a 261 in my 48-I used an altenator and made the lower bracket form the 261 gen. mount. I put the alt. to the front of mount and welded the rear ear of the generator mount right behind the alt. ear. I modified the water pump by using a shallower pulley from a power steering equiped car, subtractind the difference between it and orginal pulley, suported the rear of the shaft and pressed the pulley flange down that distance and cut the shaft shorter. Every thing lined up to my suprise, and I didn't have to move the radiator foward. If what I said here is not clear I'll try to explain it better or give me a P.M. You'll like the 261!!! 1 OL REDNECK

I live in Dubuque.

The altenator and the water pump pulley do not line up. I'll try using the generator mount.

Thanks
