A friend of mine is trying to identify an early 'thirtys' engine, numbered 339400. Number stamped near the distributor is K4553935. I looked at the casting #s on this site but no luck. Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks,

Ted

Do you know what brand it is....Chevy, Ford, GMC?

Flathead (bolts in the head, spark plugs through the head from above, cast-iron, may have ribs or pattern), or OHV (sheet metal cover like a modern engine, spark plugs in the side below the cover)?
L4, L6, L8?
Which side are the ports on?

Its an early chevy engine, L6, similiar to a 216. OHV. Will it help at all if I try to get a few pictures of it?

Photos would help, the Chevys all had casting dates cast into the block, i.e. '17L5' for the date, month, and last numeral of the year. Let us know what you find.

Well folks, I appreciate your help but my friend isn't interested enough to give me the additional info or pictures, soooo.

In any case, thanks for all your help,

Ted
