Hi, first post.
I am curious what could be the highest RPM you get from a stock block with stock or aftermarket pistons with a stock oiling system, modified head, modified valve train(gears, cam, pushrods, stamped 1.75 rockers, 2-coil springs, and lightened valves)?

What about a hi volume/flow oil pump?
I believe Mike K turns 9000 RPM w/aluminum rods ,aftermarket head & posibly a stock style oil system, but dont qoute me on him having a stock oil pump.

I have turned up to 7500 rpm w/stock rods, heavy TRW pistons & standard volume oil pump,Crane gold aluminum roller rockers 1.70
My rods are side grinded/polished,then shot peened @ ARP rod bolts installed.

Cloyes gear timing set. Chrome Moly push rods.

Standard weight valves, dual springs, solid flat tappet camshaft.

Nothing full race @ all.

Normal RPM was 6000-6500.

I saw one last week at the Sturgis, SD Drag Strip running alcohol and he was shifting at 9335 RPM and it sounded good.
There was a 292 in a pickup on pump gas doing 8,800 RPM and that thing really put a bunch on the trailers for home before he was done.

Beater-
That must have been Lee Lasey! He said... if we only knew...the head had to work with the cam...no doubt the PES lumps..ya think?

A 250 (stroke: 3.53", rod: 5.7") at 7,500 RPM is only 119,000 f/s/s piston acceleration.
9,000 is far worse than it appears at first impression, because the inertial load varies almost as the square of the RPM. 9,000 is 171,000 s/s/s, 44% higher stress.
A 292 (4.12", 6.76") at 8,800 is even worse at 190,000.

I guess I'm aiming low then I thought 5500 was high.

What if you have the stamped rockers and hydraulic lifters made by Comp Cams?
If you are running a stock damper, 5500 is high.

Need to know what parts & mods you are going to give & do to your engine.
To give you an estimate on how high you should be able to turn.

Details details.

stock block with stock or aftermarket pistons with a stock oiling system, modified head(ported), modified valve train(gears, cam, push rods, stamped 1.75 rockers, 2-coil springs, and lightened valves -basically ALL Comp Cam K61-246-4, except getting a custom grind on the cam to provide more vacuum for the power brakes)

I guess I could buy the Fluidampr 720101 harmonic balancer.

I'm going to use the car in road racing.

If you use the stock connecting rods I highly recommend ARP rod bolts.

I have failed stock rod bolts with a torque wrench during assembly, also on two occasions threw rods out the side of 250s, presumably rod bolt failures. I don't know how many rpms but I doubt it was much over 5000.

Wow, that guy gets my vote for "driver of the year" if he can control his shift speed to the nearest 5 RPM. I consider myself doing good if I can hit high without tossing the valves.

From the sound of your valve train pieces you should be good well into the 6000-plus range; just make sure your valve spring seat pressure (especially the exhausts) is within the specifications of the camshaft maker. I don't know about Chevy rotating assembly robustness.

Preacher-nochoir,
He told me it was a head he had prepped by a shop in Indiana and yes it was lump ports installed too. That thing even sounded smooth too. But it hauled fanny. His burn-outs were John Force style impressive.

The CD is too short for a slant piston.
