As I get closer to putting my motor back together, I'm trying to get this stuff sorted out.

1) I have 2 different T-Stat/by pass fittings (?) On one, the by pass hose is like 1", and the other is more like 1.5". Which one of these is better to use?:

2) Does this bolt go to a 292? I can't remember taking one out that looked like this on the 292 I pulled apart. This was in the basket case 292 I bought:

3) One of these oil pans came off a 292 in a '69 Chevy 4X4, and one was from the basket case, and I forgot which was which. The only difference seems to be an indentation at the rear and a slightly different baffle plate. Which would be best in a '68 Chevy 2 WD truck?

Thanks, guys

The bolt is a main bolt for a windage tray. Common in a lot of SBC engines.

I would use the "right " therm housing and a newer water pump that uses a threaded fitting for the bypass.

That stud is used to hold the oil pump pickup tube for 230-250 engines. May be used for the 292's also. Most 292's use a shorter version.

Either pan will work nice for a driver. Pick the nicest one.

Humm?? the 292's i have taken apart i thought had the longger one seening that crank has a longger stroke to it.and this would keep the pick tube away from the crank.Guess I'll have to dig them back out and relook at them. But i know my 250s were much shorter then what you have in that photo.

Are you saying the one on the right? Does the size (dia.) of the bypass hose matter at all? And is that a good place to pull coolant temp. from?

Thanks for the input on those pans and bolt, guys

That housing on the right looks more like one from a 250 with integral head.
