Is there a source for aluminum water pumps for a 292? Not much much luck with google. Thanks.

I've seen them on ebay from time to time for 250's, don't think i've seen them for 292's though on there or not.
I believe they are made by GMB?

Hotrod6 sells them on Ebay.

Thanks for the replys. I found the aluminum gmbs at summit racing but I thought I read somewhere that a 250 pump wouldn't work on a 292. I think a smaller impeller was the reason. Does that sound correct?

YES the impellers are a different size.A 250 pump will fit into a 292,But there are other issues besides the impeller There is also another water hole openeing on the 292 pumps.
I never tried to see how much bigger a 292 water pump is.

Is it even close to fitting or worth trying to fit in a standard 230/250 block?

I used to have running hot issues before & was wondering if it is worth looking into.

Thanks

Yeah Hank, the 292 block is bored of much larger than the 194-250 blocks are, and with the issues of the front head bolt already on the low deck engines, its a gamble to make it any larger. Also, here's another source for those GMB aluminum water pumps for both the 194-250's and 292. These are exactly the same water pumps that MrHotRod6 sells.
$24.79 each for the Low Deck version, and $28.45 for the 292's.

Oh well. It's certainly not the first 50 bucks I've pissed away but it still makes me mad. Live and learn they say but sometimes it doesn't stick with me. Thanks though. I guess I supported a vendor.

Sorry, wish I could have posted that sooner before you "pissed" away your hard earned money!

Ok I have to ask.

What is the advantage of running an aluminum pump?
It's lighter.

On V8's SBC and BBC's it also provides additional cooling over the stock cast iron water pumps, might do so on the 6's as well.
I had installed a flat disc on the inpeller to my GMB pump years ago, supposed to increase water flow.
Like this: http://www.carcraft.com/projectbuild/116_9507_flow_kooler_water_pump_disc_install/index.html

The impeller does not look as good as the old factory cast iron unit impeller.
It had just a stamped steel impeller.

Maybe they are made different now?

Thanks guys.

The cast iron waterpump I but in a couple of years ago had a stamped impeller. I don't recall what brand it was though.
