i found supposeably 2 N.O.S. GM factory head gaskets and i have a question for those who have first hand experience on these please.

is the factory 292 head gaskets a solid thin metal gasket or are they composite/steel made ? i have a new victor rentz gasket but i,d rather use a GM origial gasket because it might be thinner. any of you fellas share some info on this for me please before i buy them ?
thanks a bunch

The GM gaskets I have are composite. They are #3901016 for 1963-1969, and are .040 thick.

SURE THOUGHT THEY WOULD BE THINNER ...... THANKS LARRY (ALOT)
I,LL MEASURE MY VICTOR RENTZ GASKET AND SEE HOW THICK IT IS AND POST IT FOR FELLAS.

meaasured my new victor reinz head gasket today and its .040 also so I think I,ll just use it and let the GM gasket go as its no benifit over the victor.
I would just mill the head down some to gain a bit of compression.

Most likely the pistons are further down the hole than was originally planned & possibly the cyl head cc's are larger also.
