Looking for new LPG pistons for a 292 6cyl.Could be .040 or .060 over.

Not exactly LP pistons , but they will raise the compression, weigh less, be stronger and have lighter rings.

292 LP Pistons hhave been out of production now for quite a while and not made anymore except the forged design. also you dont want the 1/16 thick rings for a street engine unless your just building a toy. they wont last long on a dauily driver from my sperience. i was lucky to get 20 k on a set before they started getting alot of blow by and oil comsumption. you could however go with just 3 rings and 1/8 thick.

I was able to order the LPG pistons about 3 years ago. You do need to have the part number Federal Mogul Seal Power 980P-xx (xx=oversize) for success in ordering. Summit still list them though not available at this time.

1/16 compression rings are pretty much the norm on performance street engines and newer production engines.1/8 inch rings haven't been seen for 50 years except on heavy duty truck engines.1/16 rings on Venolia pistons in 302 GMC I built 6 years ago.A friend in Florida owns the truck now and the engine is still fine at 50,000 miles.

run em if you like em for me i dont have any luck with 1/16" rings and they also cost twice as much as 1/8" rings. 1/8" rings is stndard of the industry unless your building a hot rod engine. all sbc and bbc engines use 1/8 x 1/8 x 3/32" rings same with ford and mopar.

Actually, 3/32" is the more common top and second ring thickness size used by most OEM manufacturers for stock replacement cast and forged pistons, just as shown for the LP pistons in the Summit link above, until some of them changed over to metric sizes in the late 1980's.

The very long life and common Jeep 4.0 uses 5/64 compression rings,I think the 230-250 Chevy also does on stock replacement pistons.
I'm thinking 1/8 thick rings on GM car engines was last seen on the 216 ? And Diesel engines.

I don't think they are out of production because you can still get them from Sealed power. At least my parts house people got me a set 8 or 9 months ago with no trouble.
