Hello everyone!
I have not been on for some time... I sold my last car with an inline and have not had a vehicle since.
I'm now planning my next one and have a question...
Which 4 cyl. would be a better use... an old 150-somthing from the chevy II or a mid to late 80's from like an s-10?
Im thinking of a mild turbo set-up in a car weighing around 1000lbs.
Thoughts? Pro's/con's?
Cheers!

I'm building one based on a 153 because it's the closest to a vintage Chevy 4 cylinder ("62-'70) if you don't want to go back to 1928. The 181 Mercruiser or the 151 Iron Duke would work well for you. I'm sure someone will suggest the 4s from The Chevy Colorado.

This thread has some info and pictures. GM 4 cylinders 151 153 181 Probably have to paste it in the search window.

Well, the Chevy II will have cheap(er) parts, the S-10 could have several different engines.

However I think a 2900 would be your best bet, you could use the 4L60 out of a Trail Blazer, Jeremy should be able to program it up for you.

A small turbo, say a TD04-15 off a Volvo at roughly 10PSI, with a good charge cooler should be impressive . \:\)

second the 153/181. The later model 181 (3.0 liter) is better with a 1 piece rear seal and 4" bore. They still make these and have added more features (like crank trigger wheel and knock sensor). Also divided injected intake ports. The newest ones are called Vortec 3.0

At our chapter meeting today a friend told me he brought home a complete 181. I'll be looking into that one.

10 psi on a 2900 is darn close to 300 HP crank.

If your into Hi-Tek the 2.0 Saturn Redline turbocharged direct injected at 250 hp would be pretty sporty in a light car.
