O.K. ;
I seem to remember back in the 1960's the 292's were all GMC Red , that's what the few color sales things I have show them to be .
I was looking at an original '66 with 292 & three speed it's Chevrolet Blue , still has the rockerbox decal on it and so on .
What gives here ? .
TIA ,
Here is one good color link
http://oldchevytrucks.com/Articles/Engine-Paint.phpI painted mine Alpine Green aka Detroit Diesel Green, good match to the "Green" years. Never seen a blue 292. Hmmm.
One I pulled from the yard in a van was Chevy Orange, circa 1970s.

Yep. A '76 I got from a fellow Stovebolter was orange. I repainted it Chevy Blue 'cause I like that better. Engine color runs the gamut I think based on the owners preference at the time.
Thanx ! .
I too like the Detroit Diesel green , it's the same as the Chevy 261 green . I bought a case of it 20 years ago and am still cracking open a new can now & then .
The Mexican Target 292's were blue too .
My truck is that base model green so I'll prolly go with the GMC Red but I surely like that old Chevrolet Blue too .
