I have been looking for the side motor mounts for my 261 and can't come up with anything. Looking for the ones that mount on the engine about in the middle of the block with 3 mounting bolts to attach them to the block. Does any body know where to get these ?
Some I have found do not have the same bolt pattern that I have on my block.

If the lower holes are at 3 1/2 inch spacing, it may be the same as SBCs from 1958 to 1969.
What are you trying to put this engine into?
If its anything other than a 58-62 car or truck, then you will need to modify/adapt 58-62 mounts, or 51-54 car mounts depending on what you are trying to put the motor into. You could also drill 2 holes in the bottom flange under the timing cover and use 49-50 car mounts, 47-54 truck mounts, or possibly other pre '55 mounts, again, depending on what you are trying to put together. You need to give us more info.
The 1959, 261 is going into a 1930 Ford Truck made into a street rod. The mid mount, motor mounts seem to me to be just a little more beefer than the front motor mounts. Either way I know I have to fab everything.
I will have to check the lower spacing tomorrow and see if it comes up to the 3 1/2".
you mite as well make the mounts from scrach. it would be easier then modifing the old ones.
I used similar set up via mounts from Chassis Engineering that were so simple I could have made my own. Start with a plate drilled to match the holes of your block, weld on some square type tubing then get a pair of these "hot rod" universal donut looking rubber mounts to connect to a pad coming off the frame.
Look at mounts for sale in Speedway Motors catalog etc and also they should have the rubber part.

If I'm not mistaken the 1955 Chevy. V8 & six mounted in the cars/trucks the same.
So if you get a front mounting bracket for a V8 who will know later etc.

You're right. The '55 L6 and V8 mounts in a car are the same, the spindle/cushion type from the frame to a 4 sided L bracket on the block. But the bracket mounts with 2 bolts, not 3 and I think Ed would have a hard time adapting that type of system to a '30 Ford frame.

Don't you think it would be better to have it mount forward rather than center?
This way there's nothing to crowd the oil filter/lines, header pipes and throtle linkage etc.
I realize the question relates to 3 bolt mounts which were used 49-53 by GM but this will be a custom made set-up all the way.

I am actually going to look into both the front mounts and the center mounts. But I at least wanted to check into the center mounts. It's just that I have not been able to locate any that fits my block. After I mock up the engine to the frame you may be 100% correct. ?? (about the crowded condition)
But I wanted to at least check out the center mount option. I never dreamed they would be so hard to find.

That was probably a blessing, as that place is where your (spin-on) filter bracket will go best using solid lines etc.
After that; everything else will fit W/O any problem(s).
That engine should have the full flow oil filter. In a 49-53 configuration there is no place to have one safely.

Well,your right again John. But I think Ed should continue searching or make center brackets because they give better support to the engine and trans. The front brackets with other than a stock trans need extra support at the back of the block plus a trans crossmember whereas the middle brackets utilize just a cross member.Thus, a little(lot?) less fab work.
Well I guess the answer lies in; What kind of transmission is used.
A 'stick' using a stock bell housing or an auto with a custom adapter etc.

I kind of think like "CatDog", but I was not sure that they would give better support or not. They just looked like they would support better to me.
I may check into fabricating the mounts and add some sort of bracket that would mount the oil filter with it so that it would be attached to the block in some manner, just as if it were bolted to the block ??? I have visions of some sort of "L" bracket that would point towards the back. ??

It would help somewhat to have one in order to frabricate new modified ones.

Before you make the 'final decision' look how the 235 is mounted in a 55 Chevrolet, stick shift passenger car. Also; imagine a crossmember for added suport under the trans.
Now held in three places, you have nothing in the way for maintaince forever and no matter how hard you plan to drive, It's a solid instlation.
