This 1977 292 came to me very clean but the water pump and thermostat housing had clearly been replaced , I *think* maybe with ones from a 230/250 as there's no by pass hose and all the 292's I've ever seen , have one .

My question :

Should I order up a 292 water pump with by bass fitting ? . I already have a perfect thermostat housing upper & lower from an old 292 so this will be a simple thing to change .

My old 1976 GMC 2500's 292 had this by pass hose .

TIA ,

The 230,250 Pumps do not work for the 292s But their are Two different Pumps for the 292. One has a casting for the hose the
other has a fitting.

Thanx ! .

I was looking in the box of 1964 292 parts this afternoon and found the casted nipple one along with the cast iron thermostat housings upper and lower ~ off to the solvent tank and wire wheel they'll go ! .

Then new paint .

Holding the pump with no nipple nor place to add one , other than that it matches the 292 pump *exactly* , depth , impeller and so on .

I have other queries I'd like you to chime in on and some ring gear teeth and starter pinion Q's too , I'll create a new thread for those .
