I had 3 Jeeps with the 4.0. I liked them better than the one with the V8 and the present V6. That head looks good but I wonder about the small exhaust valves.

$1490 at Summit, which seems high vs v8 heads, but then again $1490 is I think the cheapest alum straight six head out there right now so its a bargain in that sense.

I don't know the AMC six that well but it seems kinda limited in the years you could use it with stock intake/exhaust.

Maybe a head for the Nova Six (1962-1990) and Falcon Six (1960-1982) are close behind!

There's already a Ford six head available and 2 different Chevy 6 heads available, the problem is no one is standing in line to get any.

Where are the links to these heads?

Thanks, It was an option until I determined that the original
head is NOT cracked.. Then again, if I decide to upgrade to
fuel injection in the future....Well, an alloy 4.0 cylinder
head would be a great starting point.

When I guessed that the water in the top of my valve cover
was the result of a cracked head, I was playing "beat the clock" time wise.. I had 13 hours to eat, sleep and get back
on the road... So, I erred on the side of caution and put
the truck in a temp storage place and continued my trip in
a rental... And I just barely made it to my destination on
time...

It cost me about $900 to be cautious.. But, I'd probably
do it again.. I was really happy to find the source of the
water was my garden hose.. A shrunken V/C gasket allowed
water into the valve cover while I was cleaning the engine,
just before my trip.. Another learning experience for me.
Just some flow numbers for the AMC head

Valve Lift .100" .200" .300" .400" .500" .600" .700"
Intake 66 123 179 221 241 237 -
Exhaust 63 103 127 144 151 155 -
cool

I do not know how to get the numbers to go in there correct positions. blush
.700" lift was not used.

Not bad for an out of the box casting.

Just yesterday I pulled the head off my 4.0, and noticed how TINY the exhaust ports are. Wonder if it could benefit from some port work. I also found a replacement head, thicker (iron) casting and better flow (They did not provide numbers), no core charge (Due to brand new casting), for only $499, valves and springs installed..... not worth it to fix the old head if there's anything wrong with it. It's in the machine shop now for pressure testing..... I hope to build this engine up in the future, stroker kit etc... but for now it will go back together the way it was, bone stock. I might do some port cleaning and blending while its out. Seems to be hard to find anyone who REALLY knows these heads on online forums.

Didn't Clifford sell a aluminum head for the Jeeps years ago?Think Patriot made it IIRC.
