Hi all,
I was wondering about using an "S" trim turbine wheel when I order a bigger turbo.

Is the any drawbacks from going this size for a 250 CI inline?

Anyone here using an "S" trim turbine wheel?

who is the manufacturer? the only drawback i can see is if it spools way too slow. typically they go O,P,Q trims, i have not heard of S. tom

Turbonetics is what I am thinking about,which is just like Garrett units,or close to it?

I thought turbo6 said to run as big a turbine wheel you can get & I thought he uses an "S" trim?

Hank, I believe a "S" trim wheel is the largest wheel available for a T4 frame turbo, I have only used a "Q" trim wheel and never had a problem with spool. but I run a 292 ci.
I think a 250 could easly use a "Q" trim.
Last year I was having problems and found it was my turbine had melted away, this was after the season was over. I switched to a "S" Trim and tried it in my driveway (I can make a 60ft pass on my driveway) and it had no spool problem at all.
With the "Q" Trim 28# boost 55# turbine (2x's) BAD
"S" Trim 40# boost 60# turbine (1/2 x's) BETTER
Can't wait to try it ! When I get it together again.

Beware: like I said in a previous post the nomenclature for these trims are different depending on the manufacture one "Q" or "R" or "S" from one is different than another even the number of fins can be different. that is why I measure everything.
All Co. make a form of all trims.

What is the trans you use & what stall?
Do you use a tranbrake?
Have you ever dynoed your engine or your vehicle?
How much boost do you run?
What fuel do you use?
Do you use methanol?
High octane fuel?
Water injection?
Do you think you need a bigger compressor wheel?
like maybe a T76?
Not trying to annoy you but,we need more info here on turbocharging.
Any info, much appreciated.

Hank, No way you can annoy me about turbos, I started this to learn from everyone. Turbonetics new GTK-1000 looks like something I would like to try, it has a ported shroud, which is needed on a small motor, the ported shroud keeps it out of surge.I also think the T76 would be good fit but with a big turbine. Since you have a 12 port head you have very good flow you can use a big compressor without using very high boost. I'm not sure with my current head setup I could use a T76 but may try one.
To answer your other questions:
Powerglide w/brake 4500 stall
T76 turbo w/"S" trim a/r.96 was 28# now 35# boost
C16 race gas, no water inj.(best run was a draw through on methanol).
7.5-1 compression
571 HP @ wheel about 670 engine, turbo should be good to about 750 to 800 engine, not there yet!!!

I was also wondering if you had run a 9 sec pass in your car?
Also,how much does your car weigh?

Did you ran your car at the race tracks??
Douglas, Old draw through set up went 10.17 @ 125 mph. Intercooled w/3-2's set up went 10.4 @ 132 mph. It was stumbling off line and very confused until about 100 ft out, think I found the problem, but I have the motor out and it will be later in the year, if I'm lucky, until I can get it back together.
I will get my son to post some pictures, remember guys I'm computer challenged, (still use carbs).

I have a 15 gal ice water tank in the trunk. Intercooler is by Corky Bell. I know thats a lot of weight but I removed a 150# weight bar from the rear of the car at the same time so the car still weighs 3200#.
No lump ports now, will install them or I have a head from GM of Brazil that is divided with a raised port that I may try. Douglas do you know anything about this head?
I run a flat tappet cam now but probably will go to a roller in the future. Still trying to figure a cam profile that my car needs.
Hey were did you get that head at Harry? I guess I could get the one from Edy shipped up here for around $1500. He has given me both his turbos that he had in his car before he re-done it all. Harry , if you don't have time to mess with that Brazilian head I know of someone that will put it to good use! ;\) \:\)

I have one of this heads too! But itīs not a good cylinder head for performance.

The water galleries and port walls are really thin, and donīt get to much port .
This cylinder head cracks the water galleries and port walls in aplications over 500hp. For engines under this hp level, it will work great!

I need to look at your setup for that sometime, Ive been considering a Air/Water IC for mine.
Unless you are running or making a track car,,, it is wiser to go air to air.
Unless you run a super water chiller off of your A/C system.

Well the front mount didn't work the hood wont latch without the front brace so im back to square one. Ive though about setting it on the passenger side of the motor and possibly placing a spray bar on it as well as a fan. But up front wont work without some heavy mods.
Air to Air is by far the way to go for the street, but I did not have any room at the front of my 37 unless I would redo it completely. Eventually I may do away with the intercooler since I feel 400-500 TRUE HP is the most you can really use on the street (I'm not a street racer)

Air to Air in front of the radiator is all thats needed on the street no sprays or anything else.

Built a 296 cu in small block street roadster for salt flat racing, with air to air that made 996 HP, air to water is only needed for all out high boost applications.

Yeah im just having problems finding space infront of the radiator for an air to air. Space is tight, real tight in there.
You can buy a new hood latch support bracket (for about $30.00) & cut & bend,modify,etc,,, or do whatever you need to do to get some room.

Ugh I know but I very much dislike hood pins. Ill see what I can do to brace up the latch itself.
Is that the main problem the hood latch bracket area?

Yes the piece that runs down the center and bolts to the latch, the grill and the core support. Looks like id have to run piping under the radiator support also, real tight to try and 90 on the side of the radiator.
