Hey guys,
worked on another part to install in my Camaro.
It is for a remote mount filter.
6 inch OD.

I made it out of solid billet aluminum.
Here are a few pics.

Nice Job hank \:\) and i bet that was a bit pricey to. I know them big Blocks cost some bucks Been there doing that myself for some stuff. Sometimes it's like ouch This will leave a dent in the backside LOL. But anyway Great job \:\)
Looks good man! Did you machine that or somebody else? Now, what about the rest of the car ;\)
Thanks guys.
I actually bought 2 scrap pieces of aluminum .

Both 6" OD ,one was 4.3" & the other 4.5",got them both for $30.00.
Normally @ the place I get metal from , a 6" OD X 3" billet aluminum would cost $39 +tax
I machined it it myself,so it just cost me $15 for the one velocity & the time it took me to make.

A machine shop probably would have charged $150 ?, just a guess.

Still, not enough time or $$$ to really put a dent in all that is needed for the Camaro, but a piece here & there, just takes so much time to do & little time to do it. Same ol same ol

As for the little time I have decided on programming a custom tune my Syclone, using the factory ECU w/help from a good friend,& together well learn how to tune.
I am excited!
At least I have a quick little truck I can play with until my dream of having my Camaro back on the road again \:D

If you can wait to find one, sometimes a good slug shows up on eBay with thick enough wall that you can make that nice big radius at the entry without spending all day boring it out (cheaper, too).
Look for stuff in odd lengths, metric sizes, with minor damage at one end, minor machining done where it doesn't affect you, etc. - these are sometimes sold for not much above scrap value by weight.
If possible, you want a full 3/4" thickness at the top so the radius curves all the way over.
If you don't mind losing the "one piece" visual, a 1/8 or 3/16" wall tube can have a radius added by simply cutting the top out of 3/8" thick plate. Since there's no stress, a few small notches in both allows a small heli-arc rosette to join them, and be ground flush.
I needed a special size,I could have bought 6" tubing w/an 1/2 inch wall thickness,but that would not work for the size I needed.Plus that scrap piece,they wanted $52 for a 3.5' length.Too much!

Spending $15 is not much & I paid for it @ $1.29 a lb,not much for billet 6061 T6.
If I were to section some pieces, have someone weld it, that would have cost more than $15 & it would not be a solid billet piece. Not that it really matters anyways.

I suppose if I had a tig welder I would had made it by the way you are talking about ,but since I do not,, I made due w/what I had & had to spend $15 dollars.

Thanks for the input.

Thank you. \:\)

Did you turn the center out as chips, or were you able to cut it out and have a smaller piece of billet?
It's all in pieces/chips.
