Hey guys,
worked on another part to install in my Camaro.
It is for a remote mount filter.
6 inch OD.
I made it out of solid billet aluminum.
Here are a few pics.

If you can wait to find one, sometimes a good slug shows up on eBay with thick enough wall that you can make that nice big radius at the entry without spending all day boring it out (cheaper, too).
Look for stuff in odd lengths, metric sizes, with minor damage at one end, minor machining done where it doesn't affect you, etc. - these are sometimes sold for not much above scrap value by weight.
If possible, you want a full 3/4" thickness at the top so the radius curves all the way over.
If you don't mind losing the "one piece" visual, a 1/8 or 3/16" wall tube can have a radius added by simply cutting the top out of 3/8" thick plate. Since there's no stress, a few small notches in both allows a small heli-arc rosette to join them, and be ground flush.
I needed a special size,I could have bought 6" tubing w/an 1/2 inch wall thickness,but that would not work for the size I needed.Plus that scrap piece,they wanted $52 for a 3.5' length.Too much!
Spending $15 is not much & I paid for it @ $1.29 a lb,not much for billet 6061 T6.
If I were to section some pieces, have someone weld it, that would have cost more than $15 & it would not be a solid billet piece. Not that it really matters anyways.
I suppose if I had a tig welder I would had made it by the way you are talking about ,but since I do not,, I made due w/what I had & had to spend $15 dollars.
Thanks for the input.

Thank you.
Did you turn the center out as chips, or were you able to cut it out and have a smaller piece of billet?
It's all in pieces/chips.
