I am looking at a 2.3 Turbo online and the ad says the shaft is broken. The motor still runs and you can move the car around is what the ad says.

My question is this - Wouldn't this cause metal to be sucked into the motor ? Seems like the intake turbine wheel is going to contact the housing when the shaft breaks and shower metal bits into the intake.

Anybody got any more insight ??

Thanks !

It's certainly happened before. Probably depends where the break is. If you go and look at it, you'll be able to look at the compressor wheel and see if it's damaged or not.

maybe its the crankshaft thats broken-the engine would still drive the car- the ad didn't say which shaft was broken.

The ad has been updated and now states that he has replaced the turbo but there must have been some combustion chamber damage due to metal ingestion. Truthfully, I DON'T want a Ford motor. The tranny situation sucks compared to the 153 and 181 GM.
