As I make more fine tune adjustments with my JED project, the support of the turbo has come up.

Right now, I have a rigid support from the top of the turbo to the inner fender. It is stout, can hold up turbo by itself. Someone brought up that with the engine movement the turbo (being mounted to something else) does not move on the same plane.

Where are you all supporting your turbo's from?

Also, while doing an oil change I got to wondering why in the hell did GM mount the oil filter horizontal? Taking it off is such a mess!

You should support it from the exhaust manifold, but you should also have an up pipe w/a flex coupler inbetween the exhaust manifold & the turbo.

I am thinking about mounting mine to the block via an arm that extends past the alternator. The 250 I have came equipped with Power Steering so that bracket is longer than if it came without. I'm sure an arm could be fabricated to reach your turbo depending on where your exhaust places it.

This way it's still on the same plane of movement and will move based on the movement of the engine.

You can mount a bracket on the engine anywhere you want.

But,,, you need a flex coupler.

I've been thinking about this as I study my fresh copies of Maximum Boost and the Inline Chevy Power manual (thanks all for the advice, these are a must have).

A couple things I've pondered:

1. Using the clutch linkage support bracket on the block

2. Piggybacking on the PS bracket (I dont know if you are running PS, but the bracket can be used for this either way.)

Thanks, I was looking tonight and have an open bolt near the top and from on the engine. I want to use an adjustable alternator type rod.

I'll post up some pics when I finish.

Here is what I came up with.

It is a 3/8" high strength aluminum rod with threaded 3/8" ball joints at the ends. It is very rigid and 1 3/4" adjustable.

Here's the pic of that bracket on my old engine. You are using the bolt for that bracket on your aluminum rod end bearing. There's another on the front of the head for the second bolt.
