I haven't been on here in over a year. My old laptop with XP shot craps and we now have a new one with Windows 8. I don't like it very much. I took the old 51 GMC with the roots blown 302 GMC to Drag Week. We made the whole 1150 miles and had a lot of fun. The truck was not very quick but it sure was different from all the other entrants. Last year it was turbo charged and EFI but I ran out of injector and changed to the 4-71 blower that we ran on the 1950 Buick salt flat car.
I remember that! =D Hello Gary!
Lets get you some pictures.

Do you go to the August swap meet in Springfield? I think I've seen the Buick I'd love to see this truck. Make any videos? Maybe it wasn't the fastest but with my brother and my dad we always talk about the "cool factor". You've gone plumb over the top on that!
OK, Tells us more. What has been done to the 302? What running gear? How much boost? What did it do at the drags? Cool looking pickup.

yep, that's bad assed lets hear more about it

The wheels are 5 bolt to suggest some changes were done to the drivetrain and suspension as well. I'm guessing mega squirt is used with those coil packs.

I always go to the August swap meet. I had the GMC there last year with the turbo/EFI on it. This year I broke the blower drive shaft a few days before the swap meet and it was apart. I changed the rear end to a 2000 Ford Crown Vic, 3.55 gear, locker with disc brakes. The transmission is still a 400 turbohydramatic. We made 17 psi boost on Drag Week and I have been having trouble pressurizing the cooling system while using a copper head gasket. When we got home I switched to an original head gasket with copper spray and it seams to be working. I also backed the waste gate spring off and now making 5 psi boost. The best pass was 15.8 ET, and it was going lean up in the rpm range and we kept changing to larger jets in the carb without any success. I am thinking about putting 4 EFI injectors on top of the 4-71 blower. I am using Mega Squirt 2.

Here is Gary's truck as seen last year (2012) at the Springfield swapmeet. The boy and I were there and had a blast at the meet.
It is wearing the turbo setup.

Here is some more that Gary posted on another thread a while back.
"...., the internals include, bored to 311 ci, aluminum rods from Howards, flat top blower pistons, cam ground by Donnie Johanson, copper head gasket with stainless steel O rings, bigger valves (enconel exhaust), ATI Super Damper, the rotating assembly has been balanced. The turbo is a Rotormaster HX35, with stainless steel exhaust manifold, engine management will be MegaSquirt using 6 51 p/ph injectors. The transmission is a turbo 400 and the rear end is a 69 Camaro, 2.73 gear. Should pull the wooden boat that I am going to build after I sell my salt flat Stude."
I use three bond black sealant to seal the copper head gasket-works a treat.i put it on and then wait till the following day before I start it up.i also drill the water passages out,and install small tubes that press in to the block and sit into the corresponding hole in the head(with lots of sealant around them-no leaks.

buickroadster, I have never heard of that trick, using the copper tubes in the holes between the block and head, great idea. I have driven it about 130 miles a day the last two weekends without any lose of water. I think I may have problem solved, might start turning up the boost.

Well, my old problem is back. Pressurizing the cooling system. I thought I had that problem solved. I guess maybe the block needs resurfaced again after getting it hot so many times. Now I have a new idea, sell off all the GMC stuff and get one of the 4200 Trailblazer 6 bangers and use my MS and turbo. This will give me a good project for this winter.
Efi-diy will be glad to hear that and maybe some GMC guys will snatch up your old stuff. It all works out.
That truck is going to fly!

Sounds like a great idea.
You can only force so much fuel & air into that old cyl head. Limiting factor, plus can't rev too high.

The 4200 cyl head can flow 310 cfm @ .500" lift w/minimal work & can turn some high RPM, with supporting mods.

Nice sleeper BTW.
