I am looking at turbo's, and would like recommendations on favorite brand, type, style...size will be for a streetable 250, mild cam, head work, and will be used for some towing duty also. thanks in advance- Jim.

The towing duty throws a wrench in the equation. Towing means your foot needs to be opening the throttle further , which will put you into boost. Possibly all the time. It is hard to design a gas burner for continuous boost.

For the regular driving.

The towing may require a looser exh housing such as a .96 or larger.

Thanks for the response. this engine will be in a 3,200lb 2wd 1987 s10 Blazer, and towing would not be more than 1,500 lbs of trailer weight. would this still present the same problems with being in the throttle too much? I was hoping that since the vehicle weight itself being low, I may be ok? thanks.

Garrett has a good turbo selector App. on their site. They also have lots of other useful information.

Just oversize the turbine so as to keep spool above your cruise speed. My DD doesn't see any real boost before 3000 RPM regardless of throttle.

Shouldn't be a problem regardless. Consider the 3.5l ecoboost Ford F150. Those are not large turbos and the thing is rated for -what- 6000lbs towing?

I found a used Turbonetics 62-1 63mm T4, with an upgraded stage 5 turbine wheel, for $500....is this close, or good to use? this is all the info I have on it right now.

The stage 5 wheel will make it spool like crazy. I'd pass.

Sounds like a good size for you.
What is the A/R on the turbine housing?
A smaller stage 3 turbine wheel will spool like crazy & will be a big restriction on your 250. Stage 5 turbine wheel is larger & will breath better.

Mine is a T3/T4 hybrid 62-1 Turbonetics turbo. stage 5 turbine wheel & have a .63 & .84 turbine housings.
Good for 625 HP on a 250 engine.

When you have a properly sized wastegate & a good boost controller, it will give you what you set you boost to.
