Well guy's I finally managed to save the GMC 302 at the scrap yard. Now all I need to do is find someone interested in buying it. I should be able to ship this through Fastenal, you set up the shipping, I deliver to them. They do not deliver to homes or business's. Pickup at local Fastenal only. I will add a picture as soon as I can. Just got it home tonight. The engine does turn over. This is the complete engine minus the alternator that was on it, even includes the clutch and bell housing. This has a 3 bolt Carb on it. Carb and manifolds were removed during removal from 1 1/2ton it was in. I am sure I have misplaced several of the nuts and bolts. Been working on removal for the for the last 2 months. Scrap yard got snowed in, more than 24"of snow, I could not get to it until this week for removal except to pull small parts off. Sorry to say dip stick got damaged when loading on trailer. Not sure of the value of this, have seen anything from $500 to $1500. So lets start in the middle at $1000 and see what happens.

I don't think you'll get a grand for one that has been sitting in a scrapyard with no history. Maybe if you fire it up and get some info like oil pressure and compression.

Yeah, what Beater said! At this point, you'd need to tear it down and magnaflux the block and head to confirm they are even usable and not frozen or cracked since that would be common in your region of the country. Even in running condition, i've seen several 302 GMC heads have cracks in the intake ports so bad you couldn't re-use them, and they were running fine beforehand.

Sounds like good information guys, Lets make it $1000 or best offer, and see where it goes from there. I will try and get a compression check done on it as soon as I can. If I do more than that I will remove the "or best offer" part and leave it at $1000. We have a large swap meet here in April and I plan on taking the motor there. To see if there is any local interest.

Ok, Ok, I know it was to high. How about $700 or best offer.

Do you have it listed on any other sites? There is some interest in 302s on the HAMB. I have 2 that I'll probably never get to if past performance is an indicator. frown Someone somewhere wants it. You've just got to find them.

Many people won't pay a price like that for any engine without a guarantee its not cracked. Cleaning and magnafluxing the main components will go a long way in getting a better price for it. The GMC engines aren't really scarce, but people will pay more for piece of mind knowing the block and head aren't cracked.

There you go! Good save. I know that in good condition it is worth more but every step takes more time and money and reduces your "easy" save. Thank you for caring enough to get it to someone who will hopefully use it. You are a "Bona Fied Jimmy Hero" cool
