I ran into an issue with my 194 to 250 swap last night. The car's original 3 speed bell housing is too small to fit over the new 10" flywheel. Will a truck version bell housing clear the floor pan of a '64 Nova wagon?

Chevy II bellhousings are special. Here is one for use with a 10.5" flywheel.
Here!

Whoa. Be carefull, that bellhousing listed is for the early transmissions. The had a smaller front bearing retainer outer diameter. It will not work with the more common transmissions that started coming out in 1964. That is when GM standardized all the car trans to have a 4 and 7/8 outer diameter on the retainer.

Martin,
Is your bellhousing aluminum? I have a couple of extra bellhousings in the shop that are from Chevelles, but they should fit the Nova. I think. I'll check the measurements tomorrow and post it here. If my spare bellhousings will work, I'll be glad to send you one of them. I do know that the ones I have will fit either the inline six or a smallblock V8. Same bolt pattern.

Chevy II bellhousings are unique in that the fork exits the side in a different location for firewall clearance. No other bellhousing will work without extensive modification to the firewall and floor pan. Look at the photo in the link above to verify if yours are the same.

You need what is called a 5:00 clock / (some also call as a 7:00) Not a 3/9:00 a clock. Lakewood sells one. and a 11in. will also clear.

I have to look at my bell housing tomorrow for numbers. I'll also have to measure my flywheel.

I made my bell housing work. I had to get a smaller flywheel.

Glad to hear that you found a fairly simple fix for your problem. Is the 250 you're putting in the Nova stock, or have you breathed a little more fire into it than a stock one?

I was doing some reading and saw that the zbar mounting bolt hole in the 250 block is different than the 194 block for early novas. Can you verify this?
