I have a stock Chevy 54 Sedan Delivery. 3 spd stock trans and rear are badly worn. Rather than rebuild, I bought a 5 spd trans and 4X4 rear end (3.42) from a S10. Hope to get better hwy driving. Question is: When converting from the closed driveshaft to open, what driveshaft did you use? The S10 driveshafts are two piece with a solid mounted center bearing. Don't really want to fab up a mount for the bearing. Any recommendations well accepted.
I'd take the two piece driveshaft from the S10 to a good driveshaft shop and have them make a single tube shaft using the front of the front half, including the output yoke, and the back end of the back half. Everything then will be readily replaceable since it's all S10!!

Make sure you get the rear end set at the right pinion angle and it should be trouble free!!
Subsequently have learned that S10 pickups (non ext. cab) have a 1-piece driveshaft. I will use this instead of the 2-piece.
I'm concidering getting a nbs, aluminum driveshaft.
