I have a 58 261 Chevy and want to install it in my 32 Coupe. Will the 32 bellhousing bolt to my motor and/or will the 32 tranny bolt to my 58 bellhousing. The bellhousing, clutch, and engine are from a 58 C-60. The 32 currently has the stock 194 and tranny. Thanx in advance.

I am almost certain its a no on both.From what I can see, the 216-261 plus the GMC's inlines share a common engine to bellhousing bolt pattern.48 and up truck behhousings use the common Chevy transmission bolt pattern as found on 55 and up cars.Shouldn't be too difficult to adapt the later housing the the earlier chassis.

Don't all 55 and up bellhousings feature the same gearbox bolt pattern?? If so, then won't the 261 bellhousing bolt to a saginaw of muncie gearbox??

Then won't all gearboxes prior to 54 bolt to a pre-54 bellhousing?

When I was 16 I had a 34 chevy master sedan. I always kept a 6 cylinder in it, primarily because they were really cheap at the time. I always used the new enignes bell housing and clutch. The 34 transmission bolted up to 4 different 6 cylinder engines, 34 to 65, with out changing the torque tube or clutch linkage. The only problem I had was the pilot bearing and once I had to drill two new holes for the transmission.

Well, I measured the two bellhousings and they are different. I couldn't measure the 32 lower engine pionts because the clutch is in the way, but the four tranny bolts are all off. Maybe it's because the bellhousing I have is from a 2ton truck. Anyone have a 40-62 passenger bellhousing they could measure for me?

give me a couple of days and i'll measure the gearbox spacing form a 55 onwards and a 49-54 bellhousing.

The engine side is all the same for the above years.

The swap can be done:
1. The 235 is about a 1 1/2" shorter than the 206 so you will need to make a plate to move the front mount back.
2. The rear of the 235 has a different bolt pattern so you will need a bell housing from a 37 to 47 truck which will fit the 235 engine and the 34 trans. and will also accept the 34 mounts.
3. You will need a flywheel from a 42 to 54 pass. or truck if you use a 6 volt starter, or 55 to 62 if you use a 12 volt starter(55 to 59 truck use foot start). Use clutch parts including clutch fork from a 1938 or later( they will need to match flywheel clutch size).
4. The exhaust is center dump on a 235 and rear dump on a 206 but that should be an easy fix.
5. You will need a starter from a 38 to 54 if you use a 6 volt flywheel or 55 to 59 truck if you want 12 volts and foot start.
6.You will also need the front bearing retainer from a 38-47 truck 4 speed to accept the later throw out bearing.
