Can anyone give me the length of the T-5 tranny from where it bolts to the bell housing to where the shifter comes up thru the floor? I'm trying to decide whether to go with a split bench seat or buckets. Any help would be appreciated.

Which tailshaft housing? There's several different versions.

Email me at jimerit@charter.net and I can send you a couple pics of mine in my 46 pickup. I'm sure you'll have plenty of room for either seat.
The 46 pickup cab is tiny and the S-10/T-5 is the ticket.

The measurement from the "face" of the transmission where it contacts the bell housing to the center of the shifter, on a T-5 from a 85-86 S10 is 11 15/16"

Hope this helps.

I put this tranny in a 1979 Chevy C10 with a bench seat using the stock S10 shifter and shift lever and it fits well. You will likely have to cut a new hole in the "hump".

I think I'd like the gearing of the camaro tranny better than the s-10. do you know that measure by any chance

According to Motorbooks "How To Rebuild and Modify Your Manual Transmission" the measurement for the T5 model # 1352-000-247 that was used in the 1996 Camaro V6, is 538.3 mm which converts to approx. 21.53 inches.

If you want the Camaro gearing replace the Camaro tailhousing with one from an S10 trans.

if the distance with the s-10 tailhousing is 11 15/16 in. , wouldn't the distance for the camaro set up be further back than 5.1 inches?

Yes, the Camaro distance is greater. The math is 538.3 milimeters divided by 25 = 21.532 inches or approximately 21 and 1/2 inches. I hope this clears it up. My math was wrong in the first post.
