where should I look for a WC T5 tranny to put behind my 400HP/400FT.LBS 292 Chevy? What cars/trucks? Also, What Rear Gear Should I Run? It'll Be A Daily Driver, With A Ton Of Getup And GO.
all this is going into a 1949 Chevy Pickup on a 1993 S-10 Frame.
I kind of want to use the S-10 10 bolt Rear end...

I would look for something a little more robust if you are planning for 400 ft-lbs. I guess if you are on street tires and not horsing around too much that trans and rear would probably be okay, but their life will be very short if you ever decide to use all 400 ft-lbs of that torque. For now, I would run the gears that came in the S-10 rear you're using. You haven't picked a camshaft yet or a tire size, so it's hard to pick something this early in the game. Gears can be changed at any time.

I don't think you'll find a T5 that'll take 400Ft/lbs.

If you're daring, then find a Camaro T5 with a V8 gearset and install the countershaft rear bearing support. You can find the support at 5 speeds.com and multiple other vendors.

I had a friend that had a 450 HP, torque unknown, 355 SB in front of a T5 in an early 80's Camaro, or should I say 4 or 5 T5's before he broke down and bought a Muncie. Overdrive and mileage weren't his concern though. Good luck and you can download a manual for free for T5's at TTC technology 's website (I think you'll need one before long.)

What about the muncie that came with the S-10, It's a 5 speed, but I'm not sure if it was for the V6 or the 4banger...

I think the 5 speeds from s-10's are not Muncies,some type of Borg Warner in the early years,,,,later years T-5??? I'm guessing.

It Has stickers with some kind of bar code and Muncie labeled in big letters across the top and bottom...

Maybe tomorrow I'll go out and see if I can't find some #'s stamped or casted into it...

I think this is what I have:

New Venture 1500

5 speed fully synchronized transmission, with bell housing integral to aluminum transmission case. Similar in design and appearance to HM290, 5LM60, and NV 3500 series transmissions, but slightly smaller. Requires some special tools to rebuild. Used in 1996 and up GM S10 vehicles with 4 cylinder or 2.8 liter engines.

2.8's were 135 hp as I remember.

Wouldn't run a NV1500. They came in 2wd S pick-ups with 2.2 4 cyl.
The NV3500 has the right bell to bolt to your 292, was used behind 4.3 V6 and 5.0 & 5.7 V8 engines in S, T, C & K series.

I don't want to be going through trannys, so I think I'll look for a NV3500 or NV4500. just to be safe...

N. V. 4500 would be bullet proof up to 800 ft. lbs. but they are huge and heavy.

what were the NV3500 and NV4500's found in? I need to start looking...

no granny low, that's on the stock 4 speed the 292's came with in C20's/30's
