I have a 50 chevy car with a 60's chevy pick up tranny and a Nova driveline. All of a sudden I have a huge leak of tranny fluid that is coming out of the bottom of the yoke. Of course the first thing I did was replace the output seal on the tranny but it's still leaking really bad. I took the driveline out and I can see that the yoke is wet with fluid. Someone told me to put JB weld on the small hole on the yoke, this way it will stop the leak. But my question is, where is this leak coming from? Is it really leaking from that hole or another spot on the tranny?

There is a soft plug on the backside of the yoke. It probably pushed out and needs to be replaced. The trans oil goes along the splines and out where the plug was supposed to be. Should be a easy fix.

Question is, what caused the plug to fall out? Does the driveshaft need to be shortened?

Sorry for answering so late, but I ended up having someone weld the hole close. But the problem still exist as tranny oil still leaks. It seem that is coming out of the front. I just had the car jacked up in the rear with the front down and the oil is coming out of the front of the tranny. I currently don't have a dust cover so the oil is clearly coming down that way. Are my internal seals bad? I never worked on one so I'm not sure what to look for.

Maybe the case vent is plugged. As the trans warms up the fluid/ gears/ air expand. There is a vent somewhere on the case, it may be plugged causing the oil to come out the front.

You also may have too much oil in the trans. Typically, there is no seal on the front of many of the older trans, they were designed to not need one.

I can't seem to find a vent and the tranny isn't overly full. The puddle of fluid continues to grow and as I said it's coming out of the front. I'm just pretty lost with this issue. I'm hoping I don't have to drop down the tranny to further look at the problem.

Is this a automatic or a stick? if it is an automatic and you have the rear end jacked way up in the air you could have ATF running out the vent and down over the front of the transmission.

It's a 3 speed tranny Bill. I have put a new rear seal already and welded the tiny hole on the center of the yoke as well.

Bad torque converter? Trans pump seal bad? Leaky vent?

Are you using 90 wt gear oil in the trans? That is what they used. Anything thinner will run out the front and ruin your clutch plate.
